Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or accessing the CoAssessor platform (the "Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Description of Service

CoAssessor is an AI-powered platform designed to streamline the NIST SP 800-53 security control assessment lifecycle. The Service provides access to a NIST SP 800-53 Rev 5 control library, AI-assisted control gap analysis, evidence management with automated sufficiency scoring, SAR-style write-up generation, artifact analysis, reporting tools, community forums, and expert-led training courses.

The Service is intended for use by federal information security professionals — including independent assessors (IAs), third-party assessment organizations (3PAOs), ISSOs, system owners, and compliance consultants — conducting or supporting NIST SP 800-53 assessments.

3. Eligibility and Account Registration

You must be at least 18 years of old to use the Service. By registering an account, you confirm that the information you provide is accurate and complete.

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and agree not to share access with unauthorized third parties. CoAssessor is a compliance tool; you must comply with all applicable laws, including any licensure or authorization requirements governing your assessment activities.

4. Subscriptions, Trials, and Billing

CoAssessor offers subscription plans billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Certain features may be gated behind a paid subscription. A free trial may be offered for a limited period; at the end of the trial period, you must subscribe to a paid plan to continue using premium features.

Subscription fees are billed in U.S. dollars in advance and are non-refundable except as expressly stated in our Refund Policy. You may cancel your subscription at anytime through the account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Founding member promotions, if offered, are limited in quantity and are not transferable. Promotional pricing may change or expire at the discretion of CoAssessor.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and international laws. You agree not to use the Service to: (a) upload classified or sensitive government information without proper authorization; (b) reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code of the platform; (c) use automated systems to scrape, crawl, or otherwise interfere with the Service; (d) attempt to bypass usage limits, security controls, or AI usage caps; or (e) use the Service to generate misleading or fraudulent assessment documentation.

CoAssessor enforces fair-use limits on AI-powered features. Excessive or abusive consumption of AI resources may result in throttling or suspension of your account.

6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

CoAssessor uses AI models to generate control translations, test procedures, write-up drafts, and artifact analyses. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or outdated references. You are solely responsible for verifying the accuracy, completeness, and sufficiency of any AI-generated output before using it in an official assessment, report, or submission.

CoAssessor is an assistive tool — it does not replace professional judgment, independent verification, or your obligation to comply with FedRAMP, NIST, or agency-specific requirements.

7. User-Generated Content and Community

The Service includes community forums and course features that allow users to post content. You retain ownership of the content you post, but you grant CoAssessor a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, and display that content within the Service.

You agree not to post content that is: unlawful, defamatory, or infringing on third-party intellectual property; classified or sensitive government data; offensive or promotional; or in violation of another person's privacy. CoAssessor reserves the right to remove any content at its sole discretion.

8. Data and Privacy

CoAssessor processes data you submit to the Service — including assessment session data, evidence artifacts, and uploaded documents — to provide platform functionality. Your data is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the proper authority and consent to upload any evidence, artifacts, or documents that may contain sensitive or controlled information. Do not upload classified information to the Service.

9. Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect information collected through the Service. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. You acknowledge that you provide your data at your own risk.

10. Intellectual Property Rights

The Service, including its interface, control library content, and platform features, is the property of CoAssessor and is protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to the CoAssessor trademarks, logos, or proprietary content.

NIST SP 800-53 control content is derived from public U.S. government publications and is not owned by CoAssessor. FedRAMP and NIST references remain the property of their respective authors.

11. Termination and Suspension

We may suspend or terminate your account at anytime, without notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in conduct harmful to CoAssessor or other users. Upon termination, your access to the Service will cease, and we may delete content associated with your account.

You may close your account at anytime through the account settings. Upon closure, CoAssessor will delete your personal data in accordance with our retention policy.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or available at all times, or that the AI-generated content is accurate or suitable for your purposes.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall CoAssessor be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or damages of any kind arising out of or in connection with the use or inability to use the Service, including but not limited to damages resulting from reliance on AI-generated assessment content, loss of data, or business interruption.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CoAssessor and its affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third party's rights.

14. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State in which CoAssessor operates, without its conflict-of-law provisions. You agree to resolve any disputes through informal communication with CoAssessor support before seeking legal remedies.

15. Changes to Terms

We may revise these Terms at anytime by posting the updated version on this page. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
